Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - The City and Borough of Sitka Assembly will meet on Tuesday, starting at 6 p.m. in Assembly chambers. The Assembly will take up a resolution in support of a federal "Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding Schools" act. U.S. Senate Bill 2907 was reintroduced in September, 2021, with the first public hearing in the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on June 22 of this year. The bill establishes the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies in the United States and sets its powers, duties, and membership.
